The atmosphere at Toyota Jamaica’s Old Hope Road showroom was electric last week Saturday as the automotive brand pulled the silk off the highly anticipated 6th generation Toyota RAV4. Amidst much fanfare, music, and the unmistakable scent of “new car smell,” the latest iteration of this SUV made its grand debut, promising to redefine the standards for hybrid performance and versatility on local soil.
For those who missed the Kingston excitement, the celebration is far from over. Toyota Jamaica confirmed that the “RAV4 Roadshow” moves West, with a secondary launch event scheduled for their Montego Bay showroom on May 2nd.
Raising the Bar
The RAV4 has long been a staple on Jamaican roads, but the 6th generation feels like a significant leap forward rather than a simple iteration. Now available in both standard petrol and hybrid variants, the new model arrives at a pivotal moment as local motorists increasingly seek out fuel-efficient solutions without sacrificing the ruggedness required for island driving.
“The RAV4 has always been more than just a vehicle in Jamaica,” said Kirk Williams, General Sales & Marketing Manager at Toyota Jamaica. “It’s part of our customers’ everyday lives, their adventures, and their families. This new generation raises the bar yet again with advanced hybrid technology, intelligent safety features, and a bold new design that reflects the spirit of our Jamaican customers.”
Performance Meets Efficiency
Toyota is giving buyers plenty of “power to choose” with three distinct flavours:
The RAV4 (Gas): Features a responsive 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 55-litre fuel tank, perfect for the traditionalist.
The RAV4 Hybrid: The star of the efficiency show, combining a 2.5-litre engine with Toyota’s world-class hybrid tech.
Some road tests have clocked this model at an impressive five litres per 100 kilometres.
The GR-Sport: For those who want a bit more “zoom” in their commute, the motorsport-inspired GR-Sport variant offers bespoke design elements and a more spirited driving feel.
Safety First: Introducing TSS 4.0
In a move that sets a new benchmark for the local market, the 6th Gen RAV4 is the first vehicle to launch with Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 (TSS 4.0). Standard across all trims, this suite includes:
Pre-collision systems (detecting pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists).
Full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control.
Lane departure alerts and blind-spot monitoring.
Seven airbags and front/rear proximity sensors.
A Tech-Forward Cabin
Inside, the RAV4 has undergone a digital transformation. The centrepiece is a newly designed infotainment system boasting a larger, more intuitive touch display. Modern conveniences like wireless phone charging, four USB ports, and seamless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay integration ensure that drivers stay connected whether they are navigating Constant Spring traffic or trekking to Portland.
Ownership
Toyota Jamaica is making the transition to the new RAV4 as seamless as possible. During the launch event, several banking institutions were on-site, offering on-the-spot financing to eager buyers.
Pricing starts at JMD $7.95m for the RAV4 LE model. To sweeten the deal, all models come with:
3-year / 100,000 km vehicle warranty.
3-year / 45,000 km complimentary maintenance.
6-year hybrid battery warranty (specifically for hybrid models).
With the RAV4 ranking as the top-selling SUV globally in 2025, and consistently topping the Automotive Dealers Association of Jamaica (ADAJ) charts, the 6th generation hopes to continue its reign.
