While revellers chip along the road in a blur of feathers, music, and pure euphoria, few pause to consider the machinery quietly holding it all together. Behind carnival – from ticketing to logistics – is MasOS, a platform that has become the backbone of some of the region’s most celebrated festivals.

For co-founder Matthew Houllier, the idea wasn’t born in a boardroom but in the trenches of the carnival ecosystem itself. “MasOS came from being close enough to the industry to see what most people never do: the complexity behind the experience. Carnival looks effortless on the surface, but behind it are thousands of moving parts: payments, inventory, logistics, customer management, and timing that has to be exact,” he said.

“For years, a lot of that was being managed through spreadsheets, manual processes, and systems that weren’t built for the scale or uniqueness of carnival. The idea wasn’t to ‘disrupt’ anything. It was to build the infrastructure the industry deserved,” Houllier added.

Despite being such a dominant force powering major events across the Caribbean and beyond, MasOS operates largely behind the scenes – by design. “We don’t focus too much on the spotlight,” Houllier explained. “The goal has always been consistency. When you’re supporting major events, the expectation isn’t excitement. It’s reliability.

“There’s a level of pride in knowing that some of the most established bands and events trust us to handle that responsibility. But it’s a quiet kind of pride. We measure success in stability, in long-term partnerships, and in the fact that when the road comes alive, everything behind it is already handled,” he continued.

That philosophy has earned the company the trust of some of the most established carnival bands globally, with success measured not in fanfare but in seamless execution, including in Jamaica.

For Judith Bemnet, chief strategy officer at the company, being in Jamaica during carnival was both business and immersion. She spoke to The Sunday Gleaner ahead of the Carnival in Jamaica Road March, telling Entertainment, “I’m here primarily in a working capacity: meeting partners, observing operations, and identifying opportunities for MasOS and DIMA, but carnival is one of those environments where participation is part of the work. You get the best insights by being in it, not just around it.”

Bemnet brings a rich international background spanning Europe, North America, and the Caribbean. She was born in Germany and has Ethiopian and Jamaican heritage. “Jamaica has a very distinct energy. It’s curated and lifestyle-driven. There’s a strong intersection between local music, soca, and the Jamaican experience. It feels intentional, almost like a premium version of carnival while still keeping that core Caribbean spirit,” she explained.

With the carnival season now behind them, the team has already begun looking to the future, given MasOS’ potential not only during this season but also in the entertainment industry as a whole.

“The focus is scale and positioning. MasOS is evolving from a carnival-specific tool into a broader operational backbone for live experiences, ticketing, inventory, customer management, and distribution. As the experience economy grows, especially across the Caribbean and diaspora markets, we want to be the infrastructure that powers it behind the scenes,” Bemnet told The Sunday Gleaner.
