Chief Justice Bryan Sykes, on behalf of the Judiciary, has expressed deep and profound sorrow at the death of Parish Court Judge Ruth Lawrence.
The Gleaner was informed that Lawrence was found unresponsive by her spouse in their Coral Spring home in Trelawny around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
She was rushed to the Falmouth Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Sykes, in a statement on Wednesday, described Lawrence as someone who dedicated her life to the service of justice, exemplifying unwavering commitment, compassion, and
professionalism throughout her career.
Beginning her journey with the courts in Westmoreland in 1997, her dedication and integrity quickly became evident, stated Sykes.
"Her appointment as a Resident Magistrate in 2009 marked a new chapter in her journey, during which she served with distinction across various parishes, including Westmoreland, Trelawny, Kingston and St Andrew, St James, and St Ann."
He indicated that she also played vital roles as Chairperson of the Children’s Court in the Northern Circuit, as it then was, and as a key member of the Western Regional Family Court.
"Her service extended beyond her courtroom work to enriching the lives of countless persons—children, families, and communities—through her leadership and compassion. Ruth’s passing is a profound loss to our system and to all who knew her."
The chief justice said her legacy of dedication and service will continue to serve as an inspiration.
