The UHWI said essential employees who are required to report for duty may do so only if it is safe to travel.

The management of the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) has advised all non-essential employees to remain at home until further notice in light of the adverse weather conditions associated with Hurricane Melissa.

It said essential employees who are required to report for duty may do so only if it is safe to travel, and are reminded to exercise extreme caution and prioritise their personal safety at all times.

The management advised staff to complete a Departmental Leave Form for absence while the hospital awaits further instructions from the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service regarding how the days will be treated.

"Your safety and well-being remain our top priority," the management stressed.

The Ministry of Health had already placed all public hospitals in emergency mode, suspending out-patient services and elective surgeries.
