The number of Jamaicans in hurricane shelters has decreased to about 13,000, down from over 25,000 on Wednesday.
The update came on Thursday from Minister of Local Government, Desmond McKenzie, at a press briefing at Jamaica House in St. Andrew.
McKenzie said some 521 shelters are active across Jamaica.
He said he could not speak on the situation in the four hardest-hit parishes in western Jamaica.
McKenzie also sought to dispel rumours on social media that the shelters would be closed today.
“That is just not true,” McKenzie said.
