Homeless man in Negril killed by container during Melissa

Residents of Little Haiti in Negril, Westmoreland at the scene where a homeless man who lived under a container was crushed during the passage Hurricane Melissa.

A homeless man who was said to be living under a container in an area called Little Haiti in Negril, Westmoreland has been killed after the structure collapsed on him during the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

His partially covered body was discovered on Wednesday morning as persons in the area came out to inspect damage caused by the Category 5 storm.

The deceased is known by the alias ‘Jermaine’.

According to residents, the man was seen taking shelter from heavy rains and strong winds associated with the hurricane, which hit Jamaica on Tuesday.

It is believed that the container gave way while he was sheltering from the storm.

Residents say the man had been living in the area for several years.
