The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) has dedicated a helicopter to locate and coordinate the collection of the bodies of persons who lost their lives during Hurricane Melissa.

This was disclosed by Information Minister Senator Dr Dana Morris Dixon at a press briefing this morning.

Yesterday, there were reports that four bodies remained unretrieved in Westmoreland Eastern, where fallen trees, utility poles, and severe flooding have cut off access to the area.

Morris Dixon said the JDF has been actively engaged in relief and humanitarian activities amid the hurricane.

She said the army has been part of teams working to clear blocked roads, pointing to efforts to restore access between St Elizabeth and Westmoreland.

In the air, the JDF has been transporting relief supplies and has been relocating patients at the Black River Hospital, which is one of the health facilities badly damaged by the storm, the information minister pointed out.

She added that the JDF has been and will continue to undertake patrols as part of public safety and security efforts.
