The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has resumed regular services in the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region (KMTR), rolling out 175 buses today to serve routes across Kingston, St Andrew, and Portmore and Spanish Town in St Catherine.

Transport Minister, Daryl Vaz, said the JUTC’s ability to provide service to the west rural and east rural routes is hampered by the damage to roads.

“We are unable to get into those areas,” he said, while addressing a press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) this morning.

As it relates to rural parishes, Vaz said that Montego Bay Metro will only be able to provide limited service due to significant damage to the road network across St James.

“St James got a bad hit, so it will be limited service, but we will be providing [service] for relief efforts for families who want to get to the most affected areas to help their loved ones,” he said.

Vaz informed that the rural express service to Negril will be discontinued until access to the resort town has been restored.
