Education Minister Dr Dana Morris Dixon on Thursday informed that schools will reopen on Monday in parts of Jamaica which were not badly affected by Hurricane Melissa.

Kingston, St Andrew and St Catherine are among the parishes least impacted by the Category 5 storm, which hit Jamaica on Tuesday.

Dana Morris Dixon told a press briefing at Jamaica House on Thursday that the storm has left some schools without power.

She said an emergency plan is being developed for children in the worst-hit parishes of Westmoreland, Hanover, Trelawny, St James, and St Elizabeth.

However, she said the priority is getting food to those parishes and restoring access.
