T he University of the West Indies (UWI) says all teaching and learning activities at its Western Jamaica Campus in St James will remain suspended until Monday, November 10, amid the impact of Hurricane Melissa.

St James is one of the parishes hit hardest by the Category 5 storm.

Further, the UWI says operations, including all teaching and learning activities, as well as scheduled assessments, at the Mona Campus in St Andrew will remain suspended for the rest of the week, with the hope of a full resumption on Monday, November 3.

“Our commitment is to ensure that no student is disadvantaged. As a result, concurrent with the return to face-to-face classes, lecturers will proactively post all course materials on the Learning Management System (LMS). This vital step ensures that every affected student will have access to the materials they need to catch up when they are able,” said Mona Campus Registrar, Donovan Stanberry.

“If the extent of the hurricane’s impact requires you to take a little longer to re-engage, we urge you to communicate immediately with your lecturers and the dean of your faculty. They are ready to provide the necessary special consideration and support as you navigate your personal recovery,” he added.
