A long line of frustrated persons at a gas station in Savanna-La-Mar, Westmoreland.

Chaos erupted at the Dunn’s River Total Energies gas station in Savanna-La-Mar, Westmoreland early Friday as residents and motorists sparred over who should be served first.

Scores of people lined the gas station from as early as 6:00 a.m. with bottles in hand, edging out motorists waiting to fill their tank.

The quarrel started after some in line accused others of not waiting their turn, with threats flying.

The fuss intensified after the pump attendant announced that only 87 regular gasolene.

“It’s been like this from about 6 o’clock or before. People waiting so that they can fill up their cars and generators but as you can see people are cutting the line and that is causing the problem,” said Damion Lee, a resident of Amity, which is located approximately five minutes from the town centre.

He was seeking gas for his generator, which he is sharing with neighbours, he told The Gleaner.

Lee said while his house did not suffer significant damage, several of his neighbours’ were flattened.

“So I’m gonna be using my generator for my Starlink to help them. To charge phones and give connection,” he said.
