Transport Minister Daryl Vaz on Friday reported that Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James, will resume commercial flights on Saturday to facilitate the departure of tourists.

Passenger flights will start at 7:00 a.m., the Airports Authority of Jamaica has since advised.

Sections of the airport, which serves as Jamaica’s main hub for tourism, were damaged during the passage of Hurricane Melissa on Tuesday.

Vaz noted that Sangster sustained more damage due to its proximity to the hurricane’s path.

Since Thursday, the airport has been facilitating relief operations.

Commercial flights are set to resume on Saturday, November 1.
