Vaz demands more transparency from JPS as entire parishes remain without power

Minister of Energy Daryl Vaz says communication from the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) “is not enough” and has demanded more detailed updates on power restoration efforts following Hurricane Melissa.
Speaking at a press briefing at Jamaica House on Friday, Vaz urged JPS to provide information similar to what was done after Hurricane Beryl last year, including projections and restoration timelines.
Vaz also directed JPS to publish restoration schedules on social media.
He informed that JPS has indicated that up to 8:00 a.m. on Friday, most eastern parishes, including Kingston and St Andrew, are expected to have at least 75 per cent of power restored by Sunday.
More than 462,000 customers remain without electricity, with the western parishes of St Elizabeth, Westmoreland, and St James hardest hit.
