Hurricane Melissa leaves trail of damage at Westmoreland health facilities

The Westmoreland Health Department is counting its losses after Hurricane Melissa left parts of the building badly damaged.
Strong winds ripped off sections of the roof, exposing offices and storage areas to heavy rain.
Staff members say several rooms were flooded, leaving important equipment and documents soaked.
With the parish without electricity, the department has been forced to scale back operations.
Likewise, the Negril and Petersfield health centres have suffered infrastructural damage, with their respective roofs impacted.
However, the Whitehouse and Little London health centres remain mostly intact, with the roof missing at the Whitehouse facility.
And despite setbacks caused by the hurricane, the Savanna-la-Mar clinic remains active, with residents seeking services.
For now, only essential operations are being carried out while clean-up and repair efforts continue across the parish.
