Approximately 2,500 Jamaicans still in hurricane shelters

The number of Jamaicans in hurricane shelters has significantly reduced to about 2,500.

Minister of Local Government and Community Development Desmond McKenzie says these persons are in 186 shelters across 12 parishes.

He gave the update on Monday at a special press briefing at Jamaica House.

More than 25,000 Jamaicans had been in shelters in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.
