Information Minister Dr Dana Morris Dixon says Jamaica is close to its goal of achieving US$1 million in Hurricane Melissa relief donations on its official portal.
Speaking today at a special press briefing on hurricane recovery at Jamaica House, Morris Dixon said US$728,000 and J$38 million were collected up to Sunday night.
She said the website is to be updated to show a tally of funds raised as part of efforts to enhance transparency and accountability.
The supportjamaica.gov.jm website was launched by the Government following the hurricane, which hit Jamaica last Tuesday, causing widespread devastation in some parishes, particularly on the western side.
The Government has warned persons to be on the lookout for fraudsters seeking to capitalise on the disaster, noting that more than two dozen fake websites had popped up.
Meanwhile, Entertainment Minister Olivia Grange told the press briefing that the Government has revised plans to hold its first Hurricane Melissa fundraising concert at the National Stadium, instead deciding to host a virtual concert and telethon on Sunday, November 16, as the first event.
The telethon is slated for 3:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with Masicka, Nigy Boy, and Christopher Martin among the performers.
The I Love Jamaica series of events aims to raise US$1 million initially.
