Following the passage of Hurricane Melissa on October 28, the western end of Jamaica, particularly the parishes of St James, St Elizabeth, and Westmoreland, experienced significant damage and widespread disruption. With two Fontana Pharmacy locations in the affected region, – St James and Savanna-la-Mar – the impact on our customers, team members, and surrounding communities was felt deeply. As a proudly Jamaican company, Fontana Pharmacy has taken swift action to support those most affected, beginning with families in the St James area.

In a heartfelt show of unity, Fontana team members gathered on November 5 to prepare relief care packages for residents in need. These packages, filled with essential food, personal care and household items, were created through meaningful partnerships with National Bakery, Tru Shake, We R So Creative, Carimed and Lasco Jamaica. The collaboration represents the collective strength of Jamaican businesses joining together to uplift communities during difficult times.

The completed care packages were carefully packed and delivered to residents of the Bogue New Ramble Hill community and parts of the West Green community — areas where many families faced the brunt of the storm’s aftermath. As part of this effort, Fontana team members also hand-delivered 100 care bags door-to-door to shut-in residents within the West Green area, ensuring that those unable to leave their homes received much-needed assistance.

This initiative marks the first phase of Fontana’s ongoing relief efforts in the region, with a continued commitment to support additional communities as rebuilding progresses.

At the core of this initiative is Fontana Pharmacy’s unwavering belief in the resilience of the Jamaican people. Hurricane Melissa tested the strength of the west, but Jamaican unity, courage, and community spirit continue to rise above the challenges.

“As a Jamaican company, our heart is always with our people,” said Anne Chang, CEO of Fontana Pharmacy. “In challenging times like these, it is important that we stand together and support one another. Fontana has always believed in giving back, and we are committed to doing our part in helping families rebuild and regain stability after Hurricane Melissa. Our communities are strong, and together, we will continue to rise.”

Fontana Pharmacy remains dedicated to serving Jamaica, not just through retail and healthcare services, but through meaningful action that strengthens the fabric of our communities. The company will continue working closely with local partners and residents as recovery efforts move forward.
