The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Police High Command is condemning the brutal murder of two police constables on Waltham Park Road, Kingston 11, on Thursday night, calling it an "attack on the very fabric of law and order" in Jamaica.

Thirty-year-old Charles Stewart, who was assigned to the Spanish Town Police Station, and 32-year-old Jemarey Gordon, who was assigned to the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (CTOC), were attacked about 7:38 p.m.

The police say the constables were at the location when an altercation developed between them and a group of men. The men reportedly brandished firearms and opened gunfire hitting the police officers.

The men then escaped on foot in the area, and the injured constables were transported to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

"This egregious attack on our officers is an attack on the very fabric of law and order in our nation. The JCF High Command strongly condemns this senseless act of violence against those who have sworn to protect and serve," stated the Commissioner of Police, Dr Kevin Blake. "Let it be clear, we will spare no effort, no resource, and no measure to bring those responsible for this cowardly act to swift justice."

"We mourn with the families, colleagues and friends of our fallen members, Constable Stewart and Constable Gordon and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to confronting criminality with relentless resolve," he added.

The High Command said the Force’s Chaplaincy Branch and Welfare Division are providing support to the family members, friends and colleagues of the slain constables.

The JCF is urging anyone with information, no matter how minor it may seem, to contact the nearest police station, Crime Stop at 311 or the 119 Police Emergency number.
