The National Works Agency (NWA) is reporting that reinstatement works planned for the section of Spanish Town Road near the Sandy Gully Bridge in St Andrew this week has been delayed.

The NWA says this is due to the entity with responsibility for the Soapberry Wastewater Treatment Plant, Central Wastewater Treatment Company, has advised the agency that the sewerage line that has been replaced continues to leak.

The NWA says the roadway was dug up by the company in order to replace a leaking sewerage line that had caused significant damage to the road surface in the vicinity of the Sandy Gully Bridge.

According to the works agency, the company has reported that the sewerage line replacement works are still ongoing in order to fix the issue.

The NWA will therefore be moving to have the disturbed area reinstated.

Manager of Communication and Customer Service at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says that some material that was used to reinstate the road will have to be replaced as it is unsuitable.

Shaw says the NWA plans to remove up to one foot of the material used to reinstate the pipe trench, adding that the agency plans to excavate the trench to remove poor materials.

He says that the required tests will then be carried out and the road paved thereafter.

The NWA is asking the motoring public to continue to exercise caution in using the thoroughfare especially as the permanent works are yet to be done.
