Police personnel assigned to the St Catherine North Division have started the new year with the seizure of an illegal gun and the arrest of a 31-year-old man in Wynters Pen in Spanish Town.

Police report that about 12:30 a.m., a team was on patrol in the area when, upon reaching Greybeard Lane in the community, a man was observed whose actions aroused suspicion.

He was accosted, and the police requested to search his person.

He complied.

According to the police, during the search a Glock 17 pistol with a magazine containing 13 rounds of ammunition was retrieved from his waistband.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.

His name is being withheld pending further investigation.

The division recorded an overall reduction in major crimes in 2025.

Commander Senior Superintendent of Police Hopton Nicholson has indicated that the police will redouble their efforts this year.
