Flooding caused by heavy rains in St Mary.

Several homes and businesses in sections of St Mary have been flooded as heavy rains continue to pound the parish.

The downpour started last Thursday.

Affected residents have complained of damage and the loss of furniture and appliances.

St Mary South East Member of Parliament Christopher Brown has indicated that areas affected by flooding include Fort George, Annotto Bay and Dover, which are among the flood-prone areas of the parish.

He stated that the town of Annotto Bay is particularly prone to flooding whenever there is heavy rainfall, as it is below sea level.

Meanwhile, the police today issued an advisory informing that sections of the Huddersfield main road and the Stewart Town main road in St Mary are flooded, rendering the roadways impassable.

The police are urging motorists to exercise caution when travelling in the affected areas and to use the Rio Nuevo Resort to Stewart Town main road as an alternative route.
