Man charged after machete attack over water in Westmoreland

The police in Westmoreland have charged a man in connection with a machete attack during an argument over water while residents were collecting the commodity from a water tank in Bethel Town.
Thirty-six-year-old Oshane Blackwood, a resident of the community, has been charged with wounding with intent.
The police report that about 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 28, Blackwood and several individuals were at a water tank filling containers when he and another man got into a dispute over the alleged misappropriation of water.
Blackwood reportedly armed himself with a machete and inflicted a chop wound to the man’s hand.
He then escaped on foot.
The injured man was assisted to hospital, where he was treated and released.
A report was subsequently made to the police, and Blackwood was later arrested during a targeted operation.
He was subsequently charged.
His court date is being arranged.
