Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness says the Government will continue to pursue strategies to further reduce Jamaica’s murder rate, as he hailed another year of decline.
Holness said Jamaica recorded fewer than 700 murders in 2025.
Speaking on Friday, he said that at his last check, the murder tally stood at 673.
The Prime Minister noted that this is the first time in 31 years that Jamaica has recorded fewer than 700 murders.
“We have cracked the psychological barrier of 1,000 murders per year,” he said.
He added that 2025 represents a third consecutive year of decline in murders in Jamaica.
“We are firmly heading toward attaining or bettering the regional average of 15 murders per 100,000. The objective of the Government is for the country to attain peace.”
