The landslide followed heavy rainfall early Tuesday morning.

The roadway leading into Kingston in the vicinity of Broadgate, at the eastern end of the Junction main road in St Mary, is now impassable due to a major landslide.

The landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall early Tuesday morning, caused a large tree to fall across the roadway, completely blocking the main thoroughfare and preventing vehicular traffic.

Member of Parliament for South Eastern St Mary, Christopher Brown, said he has alerted the National Works Agency and the police, and that emergency equipment is being mobilised to clear the blockage.

Motorists travelling to Kingston from Annotto Bay are being advised to detour through Richmond, Rock River, and Scott’s Hall, exiting at Grandy Hole.

Similarly, motorists travelling from Kingston towards Annotto Bay and surrounding areas should detour via Grandy Hole, then proceed through Scott’s Hall, Rock River and Richmond, before continuing to Highgate, Port Maria or Annotto Bay.
