A man charged for the alleged rape and abduction of two young girls had to be forcibly removed from the dock after falling to the ground after he was denied bail on Wednesday in the St Catherine Parish Court.
Thirty-six-year-old Ricardo Brown, who is of a St Thomas address, is answering the charges of rape, grievous sexual assault, unlawful detention with intent to commit grievous sexual assault, and forcible abduction.
Brown, who has a previous conviction for a sex crime, was further remanded.
In court yesterday, the Clerk of Court opposed bail, arguing that Brown is a flight risk.
The judge upheld the submission and denied him bail.
On hearing the news, the accused man suddenly fell while inside the prisoners’ dock, causing a stir inside the courtroom.
Police personnel rushed to the area.
A reluctant Brown had to be lifted by the police back to the court’s holding cell.
Allegations before the court are that about noon on May 7, 2025, the man picked up the complainants, who are nine and 10 years old, in Old Harbour and took them to a location, where they were sexually assaulted.
The matter was reported to the Old Harbour police, which launched an investigation.
Brown allegedly fled St Catherine to Thomas.
He was apprehended in Yallahs and returned to the parish, where he was charged.
