A man wanted for murder was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with police on Monday, while another has surrendered, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is reporting.
Omoy Largie, also known as 'Not Nice,' was shot by the police around 5 a.m. in Green Island, Hanover, the force says.
It says Largie had been repeatedly featured on the JCF’s Wanted Wednesday campaign in connection with the murder of Omar Nichols in Mount Carey, St James.
The police say they recovered a Smith and Wesson pistol and five rounds of ammunition during the incident.
"Based on investigations and forensic evidence, the murder of Nichols was posthumously cleared," the statement says.
The shooting has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations and the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau.
Meanwhile, the police say Alex Brown, known as 'Raw Dog' who was wanted for murder, surrendered in Clarendon.
Brown had also been recently featured in the Wanted Wednesday campaign.
