The court case against a motorist charged in the death of an 11-year-old schoolboy in Ferry, St Catherine, has been delayed due to outstanding key documents, including the postmortem report and motor vehicle examiner’s report.

Conroy Cole, who is charged with vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident, appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday.

The next court date is April 4.

During today's hearing, the investigating officer told the court that efforts to obtain the outstanding documents and secure the cooperation of two eyewitnesses have so far been unsuccessful.

The deceased, Duran McKenzie, was a student at Drew’s Avenue Primary and Infant School and lived in the Ferry district.

According to allegations, at about 3:02 p.m. on June 10, 2025, Cole was driving a 2019 Ford Transit motor truck in Ferry, St Catherine, when he struck McKenzie as the boy disembarked from a bus on his way home from school.

Cole reportedly did not stop after the crash, but police coordinated an operation that tracked the vehicle to Red Hills, St Andrew, leading to his arrest and subsequent charge.
