Update | Policeman charged over seizure of 85 rounds of ammunition

The policeman who was one of two men arrested last Friday following the seizure of a quantity of ammunition during a series of operations in Hanover and Westmoreland has now been charged.

Constable Tarnel Wright, 31, who is assigned to the Westmoreland Police Division, has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, stockpiling, dealing in a prohibited weapon, and conspiracy to traffic a prohibited weapon.

The other man remains in police custody. His identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

Wright and the civilian were arrested during a collaborative operation conducted by members of the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC) and investigators from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) in sections of Westmoreland and Hanover on Friday, January 30.

During the operation, a motor vehicle, mobile phones, cash, and a total of 85 rounds of ammunition were seized. Both men were taken into custody.

Reaffirming the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s commitment to transparency, head of C-TOC, Senior Superintendent Christopher Brown, emphasised that no individual is above the law.

“The Jamaica Constabulary Force has made a promise to provide impartial and professional service to the people of Jamaica, and we intend to keep that promise,” said Brown.
