The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) is alerting teachers and the general public about a false document circulating regarding a salary increase and other payments for educators.

In a statement on Monday, the JTA said claims of a 50% salary increase and the immediate payment of incrementals to teachers are not true.

“The JTA strongly condemns the actions of those responsible for creating and distributing this misleading correspondence,” the statement said.

“This information is false and does not represent any official communication or position of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association,” it added.

The JTA noted that negotiations with the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service are ongoing and assured that an update from the association’s president will be provided in due course through the appropriate channels.

“Please exercise caution and refrain from sharing unverified information,” the JTA urged.
