The police in St Elizabeth are searching for 13 wanted men and 10 persons of interest in connection with alleged crimes, including murder and rape.

The men are also being sought in connection with alleged incest, arson, and sexual intercourse with a person under 16. At least one case of alleged buggery, and two instances of escaping custody are also among the cases.

The push to get them is part of efforts by cops to maintain a 20 percent reduction in murders in the parish, which, according to Superintendent Coleridge Minto, "tells me that the people in the community want peace".

"We, as the police force, will do all we can to work with them," said the commander for the parish.

The list of the 23 persons follows the release of composite sketches of two men who police in Portland, in eastern Jamaican, believe may have been involved in a case of wounding with intent, and possession of a firearm in Mount Hermon, Swift River, in that parish. The incident occurred on Wednesday, February 4.

According to official police reports, around 3 p.m., a man was standing on a road in the area when he was accosted by gunmen who alighted from a grey Suzuki Swift motorcar. They opened fire, hitting him before fleeing the area. The matter was later reported to the police.

"They are being asked to turn themselves in to the Port Antonio Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) or any police station immediately. In the meantime, the police are urging anyone with information to contact the Port Antonio CIB at 876 717-0013, 311, or 119.

In the meantime, the men listed as wanted in St Elizabeth are being urged to turn themselves in to the Black River CIB immediately. Cops are also urging the public to pass on any information about their whereabouts.
