The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing two separate fatal police shootings — one in Jones Town, St Andrew, and the other in Norwood, St James — that occurred on Sunday.

The deceased men have been identified as 55-year-old Lucien Anderson and 25-year-old Genardo Jones.

In Jones Town, according to INDECOM, the police stated that a targeted operation was conducted in the area and that during a search of Anderson’s premises, he opened gunfire at the officers.

The officers fired in response, and he sustained gunshot injuries. He was later pronounced dead at hospital, INDECOM said in a statement on Monday.

Regarding the St James incident, the oversight body said the police reported that a team was deployed with a search warrant during an operation in Norwood, St James.

During the search of Jones’ dwelling, the police account is that he pointed a firearm at officers, according to INDECOM.

It is alleged that a tussle ensued between the man and at least one officer before the police fired in his direction, it added.

The man was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

INDECOM said the police reported that a firearm was recovered in each incident.

No body-worn cameras were reported as being issued to or worn by any of the police officers involved in the two fatal shooting incidents investigated by INDECOM.

Both scenes were examined by INDECOM personnel, and evidential material was recovered, processed, and packaged.

The agency said the hands of the deceased men were swabbed for gunshot residue, and their bodies were photographed and sealed pending post-mortem examinations.

The concerned officers were served with notices to submit statements and/or attend interviews.

INDECOM is appealing to persons to provide photos, videos, or information related to these and other fatal shooting incidents.

The commission said Sunday’s incidents increased the total number of fatal shootings for February to 14, involving persons fatally shot by the security forces.

Year to date, it said 42 persons have been shot and killed by the security forces. Comparatively, for the same period in 2025, 52 persons were shot and killed.
