Update | Westmoreland pump attendant charged after woman set on fire during dispute

The police in Westmoreland have charged 30-year-old pump attendant Collate Swaby in connection with the incident in which a woman was set on fire during an altercation at a gas station.

Swaby, who is from Old Road in Whithorn, is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

A court date is currently being finalised.

Reports from the Whithorn police are that about midday on Thursday, February 19, a woman, later identified as 40-year-old Dacia Forrester, went to the service station where Swaby is employed, and a confrontation ensued.

It is being alleged that the dispute escalated, during which Swaby doused the woman with a flammable substance and set her on fire.

The woman was assisted by bystanders, who extinguished the flames and transported her to the hospital, where she remains undergoing treatment.

Swaby was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

She was formally charged on Monday, February 23, following a question-and-answer session.
