Fatal shootings by Jamaica’s security forces declined by 14 per cent in the first two months of 2026 compared with the corresponding period last year, according to figures published by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
The data show that 48 people were fatally shot by members of the security forces between January and February this year, down from 56 during the same period in 2025.
A month-by-month breakdown indicates that 28 people were shot and killed in January 2026, the same number recorded in January 2025.
February, however, recorded 20 fatal shootings, compared with 28 in February 2025.
As of March 2, no fatal police shooting had been recorded for the month.
In one of the most recent incidents, which occurred in Coral Gardens, St James, three men were killed during a police operation conducted shortly after 11:00 p.m. on February 26.
INDECOM said it was notified of the triple fatal shooting and has launched an independent investigation into the circumstances.
INDECOM also indicated that no body-worn cameras were reported as being issued to or worn by the officers involved.
