Two men have been arrested by the police in St Catherine after they were found scrapping a taxi that had been taken by its owner to a garage in Spanish Town for repairs.

Detectives assigned to the St Catherine North Police Division made the arrests in connection with the theft of a Toyota Probox, which was discovered partially scrapped.

According to police reports, several weeks ago the owner had taken the vehicle, which had transmission defects, to the garage for repairs.

After several attempts to retrieve the car at the agreed time failed, the owner discovered that the vehicle had gone missing from the garage.

A report was made to the police on March 8, 2026, prompting an investigation into the matter.

Acting on information received, police personnel swooped down in the Red Ground area of Old Harbour, St Catherine.

Upon arrival, the two men were found with the partially scrapped vehicle, which had its public passenger vehicle plate replaced with a private number.

The men remain in custody as police continue their investigations.
