The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is reminding revellers and members of the public that the unauthorised use of imitation firearms as props during today's Carnival road march is strictly prohibited.

The warning comes as thousands of participants and spectators are expected to line major parade routes in St Andrew.

The JCF says individuals found in possession of imitation firearms or related props are being urged to surrender them immediately to police officers deployed along the carnival routes.

Arrangements have also been made for items to be collected by officers where necessary, with members of the public encouraged to call 119 for assistance.

The force is also reminding licensed firearm holders of their legal responsibility to ensure the safe carrying and use of their weapons at all times during public events.

Police say participation in Carnival must be guided by respect for the law and adherence to public safety standards, given the large crowds and heightened security presence expected across the capital.

The JCF says officers will maintain a visible presence throughout the event to ensure order and prevent any breaches that could put revellers or spectators at risk.
