A roadblock in Hertford, Westmoreland, mounted by taxi operators on April 13, 2026.

Taxi operators in Hertford, Westmoreland, today withdrew their services and mounted a roadblock along the main road in the community to protest poor road conditions in the area.

The blockage disrupted movement and left commuters stranded, forcing many to walk or seek alternative routes.

The drivers said constant vehicle damage has led to high repair costs, on top of expensive insurance, licensing, and taxes, making it difficult to earn a profit.

Many, particularly younger operators, say they depend on the sector for survival but cannot operate consistently.

The protest highlights growing frustration, with operators warning that further action could follow if road conditions are not urgently addressed.

The police responded to the protest.
