The matter is to go to trial on May 15.

St Catherine resident Shevaughn 'Mongoose' McBean, who is charged with the stabbing death of a man during an altercation at a wake in Riversdale, St Catherine last year, is to go on trial for murder.

Parish Court Judge Geneta Smikle today ruled that a case was made out against him.

The matter has been set for trial in the St Catherine Circuit Court on May 15.

McBean’s attorney, Ann-Marie Fertado-Richards, had argued that there are fundamental flaws in the Crown's case, including identifying McBean as the person who did the stabbing.

“What we have seen here from at least two witnesses has corroborated self-defence,” Fertado-Richards said.

However, the judge disagreed, citing statements in the case, and ruled that a prima facie case was made out.

McBean was granted $1 million bail with one to three sureties.

He is to report three times a week to the Retreat Police in St Mary and surrender his travel documents.

Fingerprint and stop orders were also imposed.

McBean is being accused of the murder of 25-year-old labourer Kevin Robinson, otherwise called 'Maggie', of Williamsfield district in Riversdale, St Catherine.

Allegations are that on July 26, 2025, Robinson was at a wake in the community when a dispute developed between him and McBean.

McBean allegedly stabbed Robinson repeatedly in the chest.

He managed to flee the scene after the incident.

Robinson was assisted to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The matter was reported to the Riversdale police, and an investigation was launched, which resulted in the arrest of McBean.

He was subsequently charged after being questioned.
