Transport Minister Daryl Vaz says his ministry has provided footage and statements to aid the police in their investigation of a fight among students that took place on one of the government's rural school buses.
Vaz responded on social media platform X to a post about the incident, saying that the events took place about 3:45 p.m., on Wednesday, in Ocho Rios, St Ann.
He says as the incident unfolded, the driver alerted the police who intercepted the bus.
"We are providing footage and statements to advance their investigation," he said, adding that "CCTV footage will also be provided to the schools."
On Tuesday afternoon, video of the incident was posted to social media with the poster stating that his cousin was ganged upon and attacked by a group of students from Marcus Garvey Technical High School while on the bus.
The person noted that their cousin arrived home "in pain with a swollen face, a bruised lip, and her uniform torn off of her."
"This is especially concerning given that Andrew Holness implemented this bus system to provide students with a safer way to commute to and from school, yet they are still not safe from each other," the poster lamented.
