A 39-year-old electrician who was accused of having cocaine valued about $10 million was freed in the St Catherine Parish Court on Thursday after the Crown conceded it could not mount a viable prosecution.

The electrician, Andrew Walcott, of a Mandeville, Manchester address, was charged with possession of cocaine, trafficking cocaine and possession of criminal property.

When the case came up before Acting Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle, attorney Chadwick Berry pointed out that there was no DNA evidence as promised by the police and that his client had no knowledge of the drug inside the vehicle.

The judge upheld the application and the accused was freed.

The allegations are that about 2:30 p.m. on November 18, 2023, Walcott had parked a Toyota Probox motor car inside a plaza in Old Harbour, St Catherine.

He was approached by police who said that there was information that he had drugs. He denied the allegation.

The vehicle was taken to the Narcotics Division and searched and white powdery substance resembling cocaine allegedly found inside two speaker boxes.

Walcott was subsequently arrested and charged.

Walcott made numerous court appearances until he was freed.
