St Catherine engineer, 63-year-old Solomon Powell, has been charged with the murder of two men in the parish 12 years ago.

He was charged following a ruling from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions on Tuesday.

Powell, also known as 'Salla', of Windsor Heights, Central Village, has been charged with two counts of murder, illegal possession of firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

He is accused of killing 58-year-old Livingston Garvey and 26-year-old Mario Cross, both of Cherry district, Linstead, St Catherine.

Reports are that about 5:30 p.m. on March 7, 2014, the men were seated in a motor car in the vicinity of a roundabout in St Catherine when the accused drove up in a Honda Prelude motor car and had a conversation with the victims.

Powell then allegedly fired shots hitting both men in the head. He then drove away.

Garvey and Cross were later pronounced dead.
