‘Bomma’ killed in alleged police confrontation in Cassava Piece

A man was fatally shot by the police in Cassava Piece, St Andrew, early this morning during an alleged confrontation.

He has been identified by the police as Orlando Salmon, otherwise called ‘Bomma’.

A firearm was reportedly seized.

The incident happened about 4:30 a.m. during a planned police operation in the area.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting have not yet been disclosed.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has since launched a probe into the fatal shooting.

As of May 19, some 130 people had been killed during alleged confrontations with the security forces.

Fifteen such fatalities have been recorded so far in May.
