WESTERN BUREAU:

Kingston-based Go! Jamaica Travel Limited has emerged as the top-producing travel agency for Ocean Signature Resorts in Jamaica, earning the hotel group's highest local travel trade honour after generating the most room nights and revenue during 2025.

The company captured the coveted Overall Room Nights and Revenue Production Champion title at Ocean Signature Resorts' annual Local Travel Agencies Awards held at Ocean Eden Bay in Trelawny recently, finishing ahead of Leisure for Pleasure Holidays & Tours, which secured the runner-up position.

For its achievement, Go! Jamaica Travel received a five-night all-inclusive stay at Ocean Allure Costa Mujeres in Mexico and two airline tickets. Leisure for Pleasure was awarded a four-night stay at an Ocean Signature Resort in the Dominican Republic, along with two airline tickets.

The recognition comes as Jamaica's tourism sector continues to rebound from the effects of Hurricane Melissa, which caused extensive damage across several tourism-dependent communities last year.

Dr Dave Chin Tung, CEO of Go! Jamaica Travel, said the award was a testament to the resilience of the travel sector and the determination of industry stakeholders to keep tourism moving despite the challenges.

"In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, receiving this award demonstrates that despite challenges, the travel industry has remained strong, adaptable and committed to serving travellers," Chin Tung told The Gleaner.

"It reflects the determination of travel professionals and hospitality partners to keep tourism moving forward."

Chin Tung also argued that travel agents continue to play a critical role in the industry despite the growing popularity of online booking platforms.

"In a world of online booking engines, Jamaican travel agents remain relevant because they offer something technology cannot… personal relationships, trusted advice, local expertise and unwavering support when travellers need it most," he said.

"Travel is about experiences, and great agents help to create unforgettable ones."

He noted that Jamaican travellers in particular often prefer the reassurance of dealing directly with an experienced travel professional.

"Jamaicans as a whole prefer to speak with someone when booking more than just a return airline ticket," he added.

Chin Tung said Go! Jamaica has responded to changing consumer preferences by combining technology with personalised service.

“We provide an online booking engine for those clients who prefer to use that tool as well as one-on-one interaction."

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Markus Haack, Ocean Signature Resorts’ vice president of sales, marketing, revenue and distribution, highlighted the critical role local travel advisers continue to play in sustaining tourism growth throughout the region.

"The resilience and spirit shown by the destination and its people over the last few months have been truly remarkable and remind us why Jamaica continues to be such a strong and admired destination worldwide," Haack said.

He thanked travel advisers for their continued support and praised the Jamaica Tourist Board for helping to strengthen the destination's global presence.

The awards ceremony formed part of a four-day familiarisation and training programme hosted by Ocean Signature Resorts for travel professionals from across Jamaica.

Other agencies recognised among the top performers were Lions Adventure Tours, P&S Events and Vacations, and Unlimited Connections.
