The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the fatal shooting of two men by the police during an operation in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Wednesday night.
One of the deceased has been identified as 22-year-old labourer Xavier Flowers, otherwise called 'Blacks', of 31 St John's Road, Spanish Town.
The second man has so far been identified only by the alias 'Gunners' and is reported to be from Waltham Park Road in Kingston.
Reports are that about 9:20 p.m. on July 8, the police conducted an intelligence-driven operation following the robbery and shooting of a pump attendant at a service station along Deanery Road in Kingston earlier that day.
Three men were captured on CCTV carrying out the attack, prompting the police to launch a search for the suspects.
The police team reportedly went to a section of 31 St John's Road, where a group of men was seen. The officers reportedly identified themselves as police, after which the men allegedly opened fire.
The police returned fire, and when the shooting ended, two men were found suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
An HS2000 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine containing four rounds of ammunition was reportedly recovered at the scene.
The injured men were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
INDECOM is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
