A St Catherine man charged for allegedly using a pitchfork to stab a man to death was remanded when he appeared in the parish court on Friday.

The accused, 36-year-old farmer Peter Fable of Bois Content in Old Harbour told the court that he could not afford a lawyer.

The court also heard that the case file was incomplete.

Presiding Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle then ordered that Fable be remanded until September 22, when the matter will again be mentioned.

He is charged with the death of 33-year-old bus driver Mario Sewell of Bois Content, Old Harbour, St Catherine.

Reports are that about 10:00 p.m. on July 1, Sewell was walking along the Bois Content main road near Old Harbour in St Catherine when he was stopped by Fable, who allegedly told him that he had "something" for him.

Fable allegedly approached Sewell and repeatedly plunged a pitchfork into his upper body before running from the scene.

The severely injured Sewell was assisted to the May Pen Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A report was made to the Old Harbour Police Station, and an investigation was launched.

During an operation in the community, Fable was apprehended on suspicion of murder.

He was subsequently charged following a question-and-answer session.
