Update | Man charged for shooting death of taxi operator in Portmore

The police have arrested and charged a man in connection with the fatal shooting of a taxi operator in Portmore, St Catherine on Tuesday night.

Charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony is 24-year-old Tywayne Hinds, otherwise called 'Lasco'.

A court date is being finalised.

Taxi operator Andre Thomas was gunned down at a bus bay along Dawkins Drive near the Portmore Mall on Tuesday night.

The police reported that at about 9:30 p.m., Thomas was standing with other persons when he was approached by a gunman, who opened fire, hitting him in the head.

The police were summoned, and Thomas was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation was launched into the matter, which resulted in the arrest of Hinds.

He was subsequently charged.
