The police today seized four illegal guns, including an AR-15 rifle, and 100 assorted rounds of ammunition during an intelligence-led operation along Cheetwood Avenue in St Andrew.

A man was taken into custody following the operation and remains under investigation.

The operation was carried out by members of the St Andrew South Proactive Investigations Unit and the Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) as part of Operation Iron Shield.

According to the police, the seizure stemmed from ongoing investigations into a July 7 double murder on Mall Road, which saw a woman and a male inDrive operator being shot.

Intelligence gathered during that probe led investigators to a series of targeted operations, culminating in Tuesday’s recovery of the weapons and ammunition.

Investigations are continuing.
