Hundreds of people braved long lines and sweltering heat on Wednesday to collect their allotted two tickets for Thursday’s Grand Gala at the National Stadium in St Andrew.
The annual Independence Day celebration began distributing free tickets at the Independence Village on Monday, with collection taking place daily from 3:00 p.m.
The distribution ends today.
Although the tickets are free, only a limited number are available.
Those unable to secure stadium tickets will instead be accommodated at the Independence Village to watch the festivities.
Gates open at 1 p.m. as Jamaica celebrates its 64th year of Independence under the theme, ‘United in Celebrating Resilience’.
This year’s Grand Gala will also mark the 50th anniversary of women in service in the Jamaica Defence Force and the 10th anniversary of Kingston’s designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Music.
