Four Georgians to enter Hall of Fame

Four of the island’s top leaders and alumni of St George’s College are to be inducted into the 2026 St George’s College Hall of Fame during a ceremony to be held at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel on November 1.

In addition, the inaugural Special Recognition segment will pay tribute to two sports groups and two outstanding sportsmen.

The Hall of Fame inductees this year will be Frank ‘Frankie’ Lewis, Dr Francis Barnett (posthumous), Ian Wong and Donovan Chen See, representing the areas of management, medicine and manufacturing.

A selection committee, chaired by past student Wayne Wray (1978), invited alumni to nominate outstanding Georgians who have displayed community spirit; excellence and achievement in a particular field; inspiring leadership; national and/or international recognition; vision and innovation; and service to the college.

Frank ‘Frankie’ Lewis, of the class of 1951, dedicated his life to community service, especially through his parish church, and mentoring graduating Georgians to prepare them for the workforce. Early in his first school year at the college, the priests recognised his leadership abilities and named him captain of Campion House. He was soon made captain of the Sunlight cricket, Manning Cup football and track teams, which brought honour locally and internationally to the institution. While living abroad, ‘Frankie’ continued to offer his skills and talent to the advancement of the Old Boys Club.

An outstanding student of St George’s College, Dr Francis Barnett (posthumous), of the class of 1966, went on to study medicine. His practices in Claremont and Brown’s Town were legendary, as he offered his services free to those in need. On migrating to the United States, Barnett did specialised studies at St Joseph’s College, where he was again recognised as an outstanding student and athlete. With such a reputation, he was able to secure scholarships for students at St George’s College and other high schools.

He was named in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges for his excellence in tennis and leadership qualities among his peers.

Ian Wong (1968) spent 45 years building iconic manufacturing and distribution brands such as Road Runner, Challenge Enterprises and Coldfield. He contributed to student mentoring and sports development at George’s, while his community spirit reached far beyond the college to other schools, poor-relief and hurricane programmes, as well as police and charity groups. Ian’s generosity was recognised with a Governor General’s Achievement Award.

A successful businessman, Donovan Chen See (1976) has served his alma mater in several roles, including 14 years as vice-chairman of the Board of Management of St George’s College, as well as chairman of the college’s Hall of Fame selection and organising committee.

Donovan’s service to the community has not been limited to the St George’s College family. He has served as a member of the Roman Catholic Archbishop’s Advisory Board, a member of the St Anne’s Secondary School Board, and president of the Jamaica Cycling Federation. Donovan continues to make generous contributions to the education of young Georgians and members of the wider community.

The 2026 St George’s Hall of Fame selection committee will also present awards in its inaugural Special Recognition in sports to the 1984 Triple Crown Champions, the 1996 Sunlight Cup Champions, Eric Barrett and Neville Bell.

According to Wray: “The St George’s College Hall of Fame induction ceremony is meant to honour Georgians who have made an indelible mark on their fellow students and communities during a lifetime of caring, service and achievement. It is an opportunity for the college to show appreciation to alumni who have demonstrated and lived according to the Jesuit education principle of being ‘Men For Others’. Moreso, the induction into the Hall of Fame is an example to current students attending St George’s College and an opportunity for their classmates to recognise them.”
