500 children in Ewarton, Waterhouse get Pocket Rocket Foundation support

Five hundred children across St Andrew and St Catherine recently benefited from the Pocket Rocket Foundation’s sixth annual back-to-school treat, as the long-standing initiative returned to provide families with meaningful support ahead of the new academic year.

Held in Ewarton in St Catherine and Waterhouse in St Andrew earlier this month, the two-day initiative provided children with Nike backpacks filled with school supplies, lunch kits and snacks, along with book vouchers and other essentials to help them return to the classroom prepared.

Over the past six years, the annual treat has become an anticipated occasion for children and families in both communities, combining practical assistance with an enjoyable experience ahead of the new school term.

Pocket Rocket Foundation founder and chairwoman Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce said the continued staging of the initiative reflects the foundation’s commitment to responding to the needs of families and supporting children throughout their educational journey.

“Preparing for a new school year can be a demanding time for families, and we understand that even a little support can go a long way. This treat is our way of helping to ease some of that pressure, while ensuring that the children return to school feeling prepared, supported and excited about the opportunities ahead,” Fraser-Pryce said.

She also expressed appreciation to the families who continue to participate in the initiative and the community members, volunteers and partners who contribute to its success each year.

“It means a great deal to us that families continue to come out and share this experience with the foundation. Seeing the excitement of the children and hearing the appreciation from their parents remind us why this initiative remains so important. We are grateful to everyone who continues to help us show these children that their education and future matter,” Fraser-Pryce added.

The 2026 staging was supported by Nike, Vituity Cares Foundation, Sangster’s Book Store, Ondre’s Auto Sales, Jamaica Biscuit Company, Grace Foods and Burger King Jamaica.

Since its establishment in 2013, the Pocket Rocket Foundation has supported the development of young Jamaicans through scholarships, educational initiatives, community outreach and sporting opportunities. Its annual back-to-school treat forms part of the foundation’s continued work to provide children with the resources and encouragement needed to pursue their education.
