Dunstan Bryan resumes role as Health Ministry Permanent Secretary after study leave

The Ministry of Health & Wellness has welcomed the return of Dunstan Bryan as Permanent Secretary, following his two-year study leave.

The Ministry, in a statement on Wednesday, said Bryan returns with extensive experience in public administration and health-sector leadership.

During the leave period, Errol Greene, then Regional Director for the South Eastern Regional Health Authority, took on the role of Permanent Secretary in the Health Ministry.

The Ministry did not indicate if Greene has returned to his previous post.

Minister of Health & Wellness, Dr Christopher Tufton, welcomed Bryan’s return and expressed confidence in his leadership and experience.

“We are pleased to welcome Mr Bryan back to the Ministry. His experience, knowledge of the health sector and understanding of the Ministry’s priorities will be valuable as we continue the work of strengthening our health system and improving outcomes for Jamaicans,” Tufton said.

“We look forward to Mr Bryan’s continued contribution to the health sector and to working with its leadership, staff and stakeholders to advance quality healthcare for all Jamaicans,” Tufton added.

Bryan was first appointed to the role of Permanent Secretary in 2019 before proceeding on study leave in 2024.

The Health Ministry says his return comes as it continues to strengthen Jamaica’s health system, improve service delivery and advance key priorities aimed at achieving better health outcomes for all Jamaicans.
